Ownership Clarification

We, at the Humane Society of the Delta, have made a lot of progress in a short period of time and our accomplishments are simply due to the caring compassionate dedication of those involved.  We have no written plan to guide us in many areas so its been an experience of trial and error and will continue.

We see the need to clearly define when HSD assumes ownership of surrendered, abandoned, neglected or abused animals.  This will require paperwork appropriate for the situation to be filled out and signed to protect all parties involved.  These documents will be kept as permanent records and will allow us to assume responsibility to provide adequate, food, water, shelter, medical care, and to attempt to locate a suitable foster/adoptive home.  A pre-adoptive screening will be conducted as well as a follow up visit assessment.  This process will allow us to operate according to HSD standards.

If HSD acquires animals as a result of an investigation and seizure, these animals will automatically become the possession of HSD and no consent of the owner will be required but a written report of events will be filed.

The possibility exist that any animals belonging to HSD could be euthanized due to health reasons, aggressive nature or inability to locate a foster/adoptive home.

As a courtesy to our members, volunteers and to the community, we will post requests for people who are looking for a pet or who want to find a home for a pet or pets on our website Bulletin Board page.  Please include a picture, full description including gender, color, breed, temperament, age, contact information, etc. and click here to send to HSD.  The posting will be time limited and subject to website space allowances.  HSD assumes no ownership or responsibility toward these animals.
